The prose for most of this book is very slow and even verges on dismal at times. So what I was looking for was some sort of cursory review of German history. The sentence structure in German is different enough from English that, if you try to translate literallyword for word, without understanding of idiomatic expressions of either language, your results come out looking idiotic.
